3rd times a charm!

Hudson did very good eating his rice cereal last night. He would open his mouth and let me put the spoon in and didn't make such awful faces like he did the first 2 nights.

If you look real close in the bottom left of the screen you'll notice Zeus sitting beside his chair hoping for a few drops! Some day Zeus!

Feed Me - Part 2

I'm happy to report that Hudson was a little more willing to try the cereal last night. He still didn't like it but I think he might have actually swallowed a little bit of it. He opened his mouth and let us put the spoon in the first couple times, but he still made a face like it was the grossest thing he has ever tasted. Well, I guess for him it is since he has never had anything else but breastmilk. :)

After a few bites he was more interested in holding the cup and chewing on it instead...

Don't forget to Vote Nov. 4th

I normally don't get too involved in politics - I leave that to Cecil and Jamie - but I think this presidential election is an important one for the future of our country so I thought I would remind everyone to go vote Tuesday, November 4th.

If you haven't decided who you will be casting your vote for yet - I found a new candidate who will be getting my vote.

He can talk gibberish just like the best of them - and he's a whole lot cuter!

Feed Me!

We decided to go ahead and start Hudson on some rice cereal even though it's a little early. He has been having a hard time sleeping still this week so we are hoping having a little more food in his tummy will make a difference. I doubt it will help tonight since he didn't get much in his mouth, let alone his tummy!

Jamie was using the video camera so I shot this video with the digital camera towards the end of the feeding. He was already getting a little frustrated with the whole thing by this point. He didn't like the cereal too much - he kept shivering like it was a gross taste (the same as he does when we give him his vitamins). We'll keep at it - he can't just have Mommy's milk forever!

too sweet

We went to the Shocker volleyball game last night and Hudson didn't like it too much. Too many people and the music and crowd was WAY too loud for him. Everytime the music came on or the crowd cheered he would jump and start to cry. We didn't stay for the whole game, but while we were there Garret was trying to comfort him and make him feel better. He even shared his firetrucks with him, till Hudson put it in his mouth. Garret didn't like that and said Hudson had to wait and borrow his trucks on Sunday. (Garret is learning his days of the week so now when you ask him when we can do something - he always tells you a day of the week!) This was Garret comforting Hudson when he got upset. Did it all on his own - how sweet is that?

sleep - who needs it?

Evidently not Hudson. We have been having a rough time with sleeping for the last week and a half. Not taking naps during the day, staying up late, getting up early. It's wearing me out, but Hudson seems to be handling it just fine!

We think he is teething which is what has upset his routine so much. We have days where as soon as I lay him down after rocking him to sleep, he wakes right back up. And we'll do that 3-4 times a day and never take more than a 5 minute nap.

Then there's the nights - exhausting! He had been waking up at 4-5 and eating, then going back to sleep till 7-8. Not anymore. For several nights he has been getting up at 1:00, then again at 3:00, then again at 5:00 - you get the picture. Some of that I think I will attribute to a growth spurt, cause there were 2 of those nights that he ate and ate when he woke up. But normally he isn't too hungry and goes back to sleep after a few minutes.

So yesterday he never took a nap at all. So I figured he would go to bed early (His normal bedtime is between 9 and 10.) So by 7:30 I had him in his pajamas, fed him (he fell asleep) and I put him to bed. He was awake before I could lay him down and wanted none of that. Let him cry it out for awhile, then Jamie rocked him back to sleep. Laid him down, woke right back up. By nine I decided to nurse him again - and we started the whole thing over. Jamie ended up rocking him till around 11 and when he was finally really, really out of it, was able to put him in bed and he stayed asleep. Then he slept till 4 and was up again at 5:30. But this time he slept till 8 so that was nice!

I think he is taking after his father in the sleep department - doesn't need much of it. Jamie can go to bed at 1 or 2 in the morning and be up at 7 and be just fine. Not me! I need my sleep!

Jump - Jump - Jump

Well, he hasn't really figured out how to jump in it yet but he likes to stand in it. He twirls around in circles and like to stare at the door frame and the dogs as they walk by.
Sorry the pictures are so blurry - he wouldn't hold still for the camera!

My newest hobby

Otherwise known as my newest way to waste time sitting at the computer when I should be sleeping... is scrapblogging. As you might know I am very into scrapbooking and now I found this site where I can make a digital scrapblog. It's too cool. Not sure yet how they'll turn out to print them - whether they will be nice enough quality to put in a book and keep - but it's still lots of fun.

I have only done 2 so far. Check them out at www.scrapblog.com/cks (there's also a link on the right side of my blog under "other stuff".

By the way - the one titled "Brad" is Jamie's cousin who just got back Saturday from serving in Iraq for 10 months. The ceremony was at Century II so we got to go and see his return. It was very good to see him back in Kansas safely and healthy!

cousins

Garret came over last night and played with Hudson. He wanted to read books to him - it was really cute. Hudson hardly took his eyes off of him all night - just taking in everything he did. Garret wanted Hudson to sit on the floor with him to read the books - just like they do at school. Garret was the teacher and Hudson was the student.

At one point he was reading Hudson an animal book and he said "Dogs say woof, woof." Evidently Hudson wasn't learning quick enough so he reached over and grabbed Hudson's cheeks and helped him say "Woof, Woof".

some days are just like that

It can't be all fun and games all the time...

Had a busy, busy day and he only took little catnaps here and there. This is the result. This was the last 2 minutes of the ride home - he cried like this the whole way - and it was at least a 30 minute drive. Wasn't fun for either one of us. And of course when we got home, he was too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep. So it's just a vicious cycle and it's still going. Jamie's taking his turn right now and giving me a little break. I think it's going to be a looooong night.

Please don't think I'm a bad mother for recording him crying like this - it was either that or cry along with him by that point! Plus I wanted to make sure Jamie knew what I had been dealing with :)

friends

Monday night we went to our friends for the big football game (Go Browns!) and Hudson got to hang out with one of his new friends. This is Jerry - he's 2 months old - 3 months younger than Hudson, but is almost as big as him already! He's already 14 pounds and Hudson was 15 at his 4 month checkup! We measured Hudson while we were over there and he was 27 inches long! I can't remember how long Jerry was, but he isn't too much shorter.

dogs

Hudson has really discovered the dogs this last couple of days and likes to watch them whenever they come into the room. Athena thinks it's great to have a playmate her size, although she doesn't understand why he won't chase her around and throw the ball for her, but Zeus still isn't so sure. He'll come close and let Hudson touch him, but then he backs off.

If you have ever been to our house, you know that Athena immediately rolls over and wants everyone who walks in the door to rub her belly - it's no different with Hudson. When I let her get close enough, she rolls over and will let him grab her belly. So far he hasn't pulled too hard!

and the little one said "roll over"

Finally!! Hudson rolled over all by himself last night. I have been putting him down for tummy time a lot this last week trying to get him to do it (He's been close for a month it seems like, just never could put it all together.)

Of course, I missed it. Jamie put him down and 2 seconds later he rolled over! But I got to see it the second time - and the third, fourth and fifth...

And he remembered how to do it this morning too! I was sure he would have forgot, but as soon as I laid him down, he rolled right over to his back! He likes to roll from his back to his side and has started sleeping on his side a lot lately, so I am sure back to tummy isn't too far away.

Then on to crawling - I'm not sure I am ready for that. I like being able to put him down somewhere and knowing he'll be in the same spot when I come back. Probably won't have that luxury for too much longer!

swing!!

We have had beautiful weather here for the last 2 weeks so the other day Gigi took Hudson out to swing in the car swing in her backyard. (Garret will be very jealous to know Hudson is using his car swing!!) He had a good time!
We spent the afternoon with Gigi and Papa Bear and Hudson had a good time - except for one minor melt down when he realized I wasn't in the room!

Sippy Cup

So Hudson has yet to ever take a bottle, and one of Jamie's patients suggested we try a sippy cup because her kids wouldn't take a bottle, but would take a sippy cup. So we thought we'd give it a try - maybe give Mommy a little free time to leave Hudson with Daddy and go do something on her own.

Don't be fooled by this sweet little guy....

Although he liked holding it and chewing on it - I don't think he got a drop of milk out of it! Guess I can keep dreaming about a little time by myself!
(And for the record - we tried a bottle again tonight as well- it went over even worse than the sippy cup - he wouldn't even put it in his mouth!)

new things Hudson is doing

Since it's been awhile - I figured I better update you on all the new, wonderful, amazing things Hudson can do now. (Okay, probably not so wonderful and amazing to you, but they are to Mommy and Daddy!)

He has discovered the dogs and watches them whenever they come into the room. He has succeeded in touching Athena once - but she moved too fast to grab a hold - I'm sure that will be soon though!

He started giving "kisses" this week. Very sweet - and slobbery!

Playing in his exersaucer. I complained to Jamie that he was too short for it and Jamie lowered it so he can touch the ground now. What a smart man I married! :)

He fell asleep playing in his swing and held on to the toys through the whole nap. As soon as he opened his eyes, he went right back to playing!

First "sit-up" bath - complete with rubber ducky! I think I was more excited about it then he was, but I'm sure it won't be long before he figures out when he kicks it makes the water splash - then bath time will be much more interesting. So far it's only interesting when he pees in the water - and lucky for me, he usually only does that when Daddy is giving him a bath. He's only done it to me once or twice - and he has never pooped on me - he saves that for Daddy too!

Sitting up all on his own! He just did this the other day for the first time - he's a little wobbly, but he can hold it for a little while - then he ends up touching his nose to his toes!

No explanation needed - just plain cute! (Right now anyways!)

You can't really tell from this picture but he's started sucking on his tongue and chewing on it too. I think the teething has started because he chomps on anything that he can get close to his mouth these days!

We're Back!!

We are finally all feeling better at our house! Jamie was better by the weekend, so he was able to help me take care of Hudson since he still wasn't feeling well. I didn't feel great for a day or so, but not near as bad as the boys were feeling, and, of course, Hudson had it the worst. He is still a little congested and has a tiny cough this morning, but MUCH better from how he was.

Yesterday I decided we just needed a change of scenery and to get out of the house, so we went with Papa and Gigi to Aunt Christin's volleybally game in McPherson. Unforuntately, they lost the game, but Hudson had a great time!

This is his newest smile - it's too cute!
