And by the way - the huge lump on his head is a mosquito bite! Poor kid swells up like a balloon from them sometimes!

trip to the zoo

In case you need a little reassurance (like I did!) that Hudson is okay after his accident I took him to the zoo on Friday and he was just fine! This was his first trip since he started walking so he was able to do a whole lot more and had a lot more fun. Plus we went with my mom's 3 year old preschool class so there were kids everywhere which he enjoyed!

Holding hands with "his classmates". He wanted GiGi the whole time we were there and they started walking off so she took his hand and he just turned to the little girl next to him and held out his hand to her. So sweet!

The statue I take his picture with everytime we go so I can see how much he's grown.

Not so sure when the lion got so close. He was running for safety.

But he loved feeding the giraffe.

He wasn't so sure about the tigers so close up either.

He also like feeding the sheep.

For a little bit. Then he got to where he wanted me to do it so he kept saying "Me Me Me." Which appears to actually mean "You You You."

Bowling and 911

We had a scary afternoon at the bowling alley on Thursday. We thought it would be fun to take Hudson bowling - and he loved it. They set us up with bumper lanes and even brought out the ramp that handicap people use to push the ball down - and he was loving it. Until he stepped over the foul line and wham! He hit the back of his head when he fell and immediately started crying. I was right there because I was getting ready to grab him right as he fell so I picked him right up and he went limp in my arms. He was doing - what I thought - was that thing babies do when the cry and hold their breath before letting out another wail - but then it kept going and going. His eyes were shut and he was limp and I knew something was wrong. I was yelling for Jamie and when he got there he took one look at him he grabbed him from me and said "call 911!" He didn't think he was breathing. So I found the phone and called. By the time I got the operator on the line Hudson had come around but was still acting very listless and quiet. He was probably only unconscious for 30 seconds at most and we aren't sure if he really stopped breathing or if it was just cause he was crying when he blacked out but it had to have been the longest 30 seconds of my life!

So they sent out the ambulance and a firetruck. It took 6 minutes or so for them to get there and by that time Hudson was acting much more normal. He was pointing down at the lanes like he wanted to go down and bowl some more and at the water fountain saying "drink."

We were both pretty disappointed in the paramedics - when they got there they came up to us and looked at Hudson and said "Well, what would you like us to do?" Ummm.. hello? You're the ones "trained" to deal with accidents like this, right? Evidently not, cause the only thing they did was feel the back of his head for a bump (and then ask us if we thought if felt normal) and try to take his blood pressure but the cuff was too big and he wouldn't hold still. So they just said to watch him and take him to the ER or call them again if he was acting abnormal or nauseous.

That night at dinner Hudson was really tired and kept sitting in my lap and putting his head down like he wanted to sleep. He never acts like that. That night he slept all night (although with me in my bed so I could check on him every once in a while) which is abnormal behavior for him right now as well. (We think he's teething cause he hasn't been sleeping at night or napping much the last few weeks.) But the night before he didn't go to bed till 4 am so he had to have been tired, plus have a headache! Besides being tired he acted normal Thursday evening and he was fine all day yesterday so there doesn't seem to be any other consequences from the accident. Besides the fact that he isn't allowed to bowl again till he's 16!

ready to potty train?

Could it be true?!? Or maybe it's just a fascination with poop but this past week Hudson seems to have started telling us when he needs to go "peepee" and poop. The other day he came upstairs, said "peepee", went into his room, pointed at the changing table and said "diaper". I don't know if he really had just wet his diaper or not but I was pretty impressed he came and told us he wanted a new diaper. Yesterday he was standing in the hallway and said "peepee" and pointed at the toilet. So we got his stool out and set him up there. He didn't go but he thought it was pretty neat.

Then in the afternoon we were outside playing and he stopped and stood still, looked at me and said "poop". A few seconds later he had a poopy diaper! Maybe I should have rushed him in and put him on the pot! Or maybe I won't rush it at all - I'm not ready to clean up all the messes!

Daddy's lil' man - part 2

The downside to being a stay-at-home mom when Dad is the favorite! :)

helping daddy

A few nights ago Jamie decided to wash his truck and he was going to have his little man help him out. Well after about 10 minutes Jamie gave up because Hudson wouldn't give up control of the hose. So the next day he tried something a little smaller - the motorcycle. It took quite a bit longer than usual but they got it done.

Hudson has discovered how much fun it is to spray mommy and daddy with the hose!

Jamie "Don't touch - I don't want your slimy fingerprints on my shiny bike."

Hudson: "Like this Daddy?"

Playing with his neighbor friends. There's 2 girls - about 5 and 7 and a boy that's 12. Hudson loves playing with them. He gets very excited when he sees them playing outside and starts yelling about going "outide". The girls were pushing 2 strollers around our cul-de-sac - a real one and this doll one. Hudson only wanted to ride in the doll one!

The Kansas State Fair

We took Hudson to his first state fair yesterday and he loved it. His favorite was definitely the bunnies, then all the other animals and then the rides and he had a great time.

Here's our day at the fair - there was lots to do so there are lots of pictures!

The first thing we did was check out all the animals. The pigs were first and those scared him a little so we moved on to the bunnies and chickens, which were a little more his size! He loved the bunnies and hopped all around the cages. We had a hard time keeping his fingers out of the cages too!
I just have to say - what in the world?? Notice the comb and can of hairspray? It's a COW for goodness sake! But the fluffiest cow I have ever seen - although I haven't seen that many up close!

It was actually cool in the morning but of course Hudson wanted to play in the water anyways. Luckily we were able to distract him without getting too wet.

Too sweet!

Butter! Hudson loves butter now so when I told him this was made out of butter he liked that!

Sooo Big! He kept bending over and trying to pick the pumpkins up. Then he would grunt and say "biiigg".

My little farmer!

Riding on the combine. They had a place called "Agland" and it had all sorts of stuff set up for kids to play on to learn about agriculture. We weighed Hudson on the scale and he weighs the same as a baby deer - 22.9 lbs.

Riding the "horses"

"Yee-haw"

We watched the horse acrobatic show for a little while.

Hudson was a little worried about them falling off their horses!

And then - GASP! - we let Hudson eat a corn dog for lunch! He loved it - mostly just the breading but he ate part of a second one too. I ate a little bit of it and felt sick for the next hour! Hot dogs - yuck!

Then it was naptime...We took our books and a blanket and laid out in the grass while he slept. Only lasted about 40 minutes though.

Riding the ferris wheel! I was worried he would freak out and cry but he was just fine. He loved the helicopters that kept flying over (You could do a 5 minute helicopter ride for only $40!) and you could see their landing spot from on top of the ferris wheel, so that's what he watched the whole time.

He loved the carousel. When it first started up it scared him but then he thought it was great. Only problem was he didn't want to sit on just one horse, he wanted to try them all out so we had a hard time convincing him to sit still.

By then it had warmed up enough for the water. He got soaked. I happened to snap this picture right as the fountain came on and went up his nose!

We had a hard time distracting him from the water again but luckily the bricks along the sidewalk finally did the trick! Of course when he got to the end he turned back around and said "more"!

In the morning we brought the stroller with us but he only rode in it twice for like a minute each time so we didn't bring it back for the afternoon. So he got to walk a lot - but it was pretty slow going! After watching the pig races we went and got some ice cream! Hudson ate my entire cone!

We stopped by the chickens, bunnies and pigs one more time on our way out...(Jamie fixed Hudson's hair if you're wondering what happened to it!)

And if that wasn't enough for you - I captured it all on video as well!! You would think at the end he was totally worn out and would have fallen asleep - but no, he didn't fall asleep the whole way home and was still going strong at 8:15 when we finally said he HAD to to to bed cause we were exhausted!

Daddy's Lil' Man

I think I have been replaced. Daddy has now surpassed me in the "favorite parent" category. All week, all day long all I hear about is "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy...." He walks out of the room and it's " Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy"...He hears Jamie's truck in the driveway and it's "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy"...I read him a book that says the word "Daddy" and it's "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy, Daddy"...you get the picture. For breakfast in the morning he doesn't want cheerios, he want's Daddy's cereal. Then he drinks the milk from the bowl - just like daddy taught him. I don't mind though - I love watching them play together and the bond they have. The way both of their eyes light up when Jamie gets home from work. It's sweet and I hope it never changes and only grows stronger with time.
And I realized this week that Jamie is no longer DaDa but Daddy, while I'm still MaMa. But I won't be "mama" forever - so I should enjoy it as long as it lasts. They grow up too quick!

Twister

I guess Hudson had a lot of fun at the party last night. All day he kept saying "party" and he started pulling all of our games out of the cabinet and saying "party". So I decided he must be wanting to learn how to play them for our next party. We started with an easy one...

SURPRISE!!

My sisters and I threw our mom a surprise 50th bday party last night. We pulled it off - although I think she was getting a little suspicious! We had 54 people at my house for the party- it was packed! Celeste and I spent 11 hours total on Saturday making the cake! That includes shopping for supplies, design time, plus entertaining Hudson as well ;) but it was a looong day! But the cake turned out really cute - although a little lopsided!

Go Tigers!

Tuesday we took a little road trip to McPherson to see Aunt CJ. Hudson hadn't seen her in over 2 weeks since she had left for school and they were both missing each other very, very much. So we went up in the afternoon and spent a few hours hanging out in her dorm before she had to get ready for her game. We also lucked out and got to watch a little bit of the boy's basketball practice - Hudson loved it! When her vball game started he cried the first few times the crowd got rowdy but then he got into it and liked watching the ball and Aunt CJ and cheering and clapping with everyone.

Home!

It feels like forever since I've been home! I'm not used to being gone for so long - 10 full days! Hudson and I had a good time with Papa and Binga and Hudson did start to warm up to them by the weekend. It seems like he's always teething when we see them - don't know why that is - but it makes him fussy and more clingy than he normally is.
We left Iowa at 7:30 last night and didn't get home till 1:30 in the morning! And unfortunately Hudson didn't sleep the whole way like we had hoped. He fell asleep at 9 but then woke up at 11:30 and stayed awake the rest of the trip! I couldn't even keep my eyes open the last 45 minutes but he was wide awake. As soon as we got home it started POURING down rain - and it hasn't stopped yet! - so there was lots of LOUD thunder and lightning so I thought he'd never go to sleep but he eventually did. Of course, he was up and ready to go at 7 am like usual!

This morning we completed a project that I have had in my mind for about a year now and had the pictures for a few months. I started working on it a few weeks ago and Jamie finished the trim while we were in Iowa. So I put the pictures up this morning and it is done. I think it turned out pretty good - it's our gallery of Baby Hudson!!

Before - the blank wall in the basement
Taping out the squares

Painting the squares

Jamie did all the trim- all by himself!
