Today Hudson and I ran to Target to look for some new sandals for him and get a few groceries. As soon as we got inside he informed me he wanted to walk, not ride in the cart. Oh, boy. So he walked all around the produce section naming (and touching) everything he could and asking “what’s this” if he didn’t know. He got to buy one kiwi to try, which he was pretty excited about.
We then went to try on shoes. Man, the shoes had been picked over and there was only one pair of sandals left in a size 6. I thought they were okay so I took his shoes and sock off and tried to get him to try them on. “No, I don’t like them,” he tells me. “I want to wear my light shoes” (his tennis shoes which light up when he walks – which he has totally worn out and outgrown.). I finally get them on him, though he is still complaining. Decide they look really big on his feet. There was another pair I liked but they only had in a size 5. Decide to try them just in case. He sits right down and lets me put them on him. Stands up and says “these are cute!” Unfortunately, they were also too small. I asked him several times if he wanted to buy the size 6 pair - “no, I don’t like them” he keeps telling me. So we didn’t buy any sandals today.
Then we head to the checkout. By this point I have convinced him to ride in the basket. Not in the seat part, but the actual basket part with all the groceries. We are standing in line at the checkout and he picks up his favorite things from the cart – sliced cheese and a block of cheese – and tells the lady in line in front of us “I going to buy these myself. Use my money.” When we get close enough to put our items on the conveyor belt he did it all himself – except the eggs! – from the back of the cart. I then get my wallet out and give him my library card. Push the cart up by the cc machine and he proceeds to swipe the library card through the machine – several times. Oh, he thought he was something special. He then loses interest and allows me to finish paying – which is unusual. He usually keeps insisting on holding the card and trying to hit the buttons on the cc machine. I look up to see what he’s doing and see him blowing kisses to the ladies working in the optical department! What a boy!
It, unfortunately, has been really windy lately around here (it’s Kansas, I don’t know why I hope for anything different!) Hudson HATES the wind. Every morning when he gets up he comes out to the kitchen window and I say something like “the sun is shining, it’s nice outside today.” He always comments” no, it’s not nice outside. It’s windy.” Every time. He also hates having the windows down in the car. Today he told me to close them because “my hair is blowing away.”
Hudson is still stuck on Easter – specifically Easter eggs. We were at the store the other day and they had their plastic eggs marked 70% off. So I bought him some (since he wasn’t going to let me leave the store without them anyway). He held the bag of eggs proudly the whole rest of the time I was shopping and never tried to get out of the stroller again. 63 cents well worth it just for that. Today, we played Easter egg hunt all afternoon. He loves it!
The other day he and Jamie were going back and forth saying “you’re stinky” to each other. After a few times back and forth, Hudson says “No, I not stinky. Mommy wipes my poop.” Point for Hudson.
And, lastly, Hudson has a new pet name for me now. It’s not Mommy, Mom or even Cassie or Honey. He now calls me “woman.” Jamie’s term of “endearment” for me – which he got from his father, I believe. Guess Hudson is just taking after the men in the family. Got to admit it’s pretty funny though when he yells “Hey woman!” at me.
