scissors

Last weekend my mom and sisters and I all took a shopping trip to KC.  That’s all we did – besides eating really great food!  CHEESECAKE FACTORY!!!   We had lots of fun.  This was the longest I have been away from Hudson but him and Jamie had a great time without me.  I don’t think he even asked for me a single time!

Part of our shopping trip included a stop at US Toy Store – my mom’s favorite teacher supply place. This store has every toy and school supply imaginable!  They also have huge rats running around the store – as witnessed by mom and Christin.  We were all ready to leave once they saw that!

I bought Hudson several things over the weekend but his favorite thing – the first night I was back anyways – was the scissors I bought for him.  Their the kid kind – all plastic and I was right that he would think it was pretty cool to have his own pair. Hopefully I don’t regret teaching him how to use them!   He does okay with them.  He holds them upside down and once he gets them closed on the paper he just rips the paper apart – but he thinks he’s cutting it.

totally have to be pregnant

Because I would NEVER voluntarily choose this for dinner otherwise!  Breakfast food is for breakfast time only.  But the other night I was craving a waffle and eggs.  Totally crazy!  But the waffle was YUMMY!  The really crazy thing is Brinner (breakfast for dinner) is one of Jamie’s favorites and he wasn’t even home for dinner that night!

On the pregnancy note I am almost 16 weeks now.  still feeling really well for the most part except being much more tired than usual.  I only feel sick right after I eat usually but that’s been better the last week or two.   I’ve been eating a lot – like I always do! - and am starting to show some.  I think I look huge already –  but probably not even that noticeable to everyone else!

My little man

haircut

Hudson got a haircut last week.  He looks SO grown up now.  I am still not used to it.   He was pretty impressed with the mohawk Gigi gave him.  Later she spiked the front up and he looked in the mirror and said “I look like Daddy!”

PB&J Rollups – for Uncle Chase

Memories.  I was craving a PB&J sandwich the other day so we had some for a snack.  As I was making them I remembered by brother used to eat these ALL the time – as rollups.  No crust.  Probably white bread.  Rolled flat and then rolled up like a tortilla.  I think it was the only thing he ate for 3 years – until he moved on to  mayo and cheese sandwiches.  We will NOT be trying those!

Birthday Bash

Tuesday was Jamie’s 32nd birthday so we celebrated by going out to dinner at PF Chang’s.  It’s our favorite place to go on special occasions.  (Oh yeah, it was my 30th  birthday too – guess I should mention that!)   :)

We usually leave Hudson with my parents when we go out on special occassions but we decided this time to take him with us.  We figured he’d like the food.  We were wrong – he LOVED the food.  He devoured egg drop soup, a lettuce wrap, lo mein, chicken and tiramisu for dessert.   And he did most of it – with chopsticks!

pf changs

Well, some of it anyways.  They were kids chopsticks so they were stuck together and he just had to squeeze them.  He thought it was pretty cool.   Then he topped the night off with a couple of fortune cookies while Jamie paid the bill.  Oh – and his fortune!  Jamie said “oh, no” when he helped him open it.

Now if that’s not a SIGN!!

They are both set on a baby brother.  We are going to have a hard time changing Hudson’s mind if they’re wrong!  He won’t even listen to my suggestions of a baby girl!

Swimming

Hudson is loving the swim pool this year.  We have a pool in our neighborhood that we only went to maybe twice last summer but this summer we are taking advantage of it!   Hudson can walk in the shallow end this year which is nice cause then i don’t have to hold him the entire time! We are working on using the water wings or a life jacket but he still doesn’t get how to keep his feet underneath him instead of up behind him so his face just keeps going right in.     He also loves jumping off the edge into your arms and has even started liking going under the water.   Jamie dunked him a few times the other day holding his (Jamie’s) hand over his mouth and nose and Hudson thought that was the greatest!  I’ll have to get it on video next time we go.  Here’s some pics and video from a few of our swimming adventures so far this summer:

Potty Training

035

So we’ve been at it for about 2 weeks now and in the last few days I have noticed a BIG difference.  He’s starting to catch on.  Last night he ran into the bathroom, pulled his pants down all by himself and tried to potty!  That’s got to be progress!!  Although he still doesn’t tell me before he needs to go potty – he tells me as is he going potty.   But he is starting to hold it much longer in between times and have lots less accidents.  He rarely wets during nap time anymore and a lot of mornings he is dry when he gets up too! In fact, we’ve had several days with no potty accidents (not in a row though!)   Things get a little trickier when we go out somewhere because he has a fear of public toilets.  He doesn’t like the ones that automatically flush so he is too preoccupied holding his hands over his ears cause “it’s going to be loud” to potty.  But if Jamie is with us and there’s a urinal to use – boy, he thinks that’s the coolest and he’ll ask 2-3 times to go potty!

So we’re going to stick with it and see if we can really get it down or not.  If we do, we’ll move on to poopy training.  That’s going to be the hard one with him!

Riverside Park

We took the boys to see Peter Rabbit at the Children’s Theatre last week and then went to Riverside Park to see the zoo, play at the park, and play in the water fountains.  It was not real hot out that day but Garret didn’t seem to mind.  Hudson, on the other hand, isn’t as in to the fountains as he was last summer.  He doesn’t really want to get wet.  He’ll run through them if you hold him and run but otherwise he stays just around the edges. He did still manage to get wet though!

Climbing the rope tower.  Hudson is getting pretty good at climbing at the park these days.

Not as good as Garret though!

Congratulations!

Three newsworthy events to note:

Congrats to Isaac, Melissa and Justin on the finalization of his adoption on July 1.  We all took a trip to the courthouse to watch the judge sign the papers.  When it was all done, Melissa said “now we can take the tags off!”

Hudson giving Isaac a congratulatory hug!

And last week my sister-in-law, Jenni, found out she’s having a little BOY in November and my sister found out she’s having a GIRL!  I was 0 for 2 on both of them…makes me wonder if I’m wrong about mine!!

Showing off our bellies – although Celeste is the only one with something to show so far!

FIREWORKS!!!

Hudson was still unsure about fireworks this year.  He loves watching them but he hates the noise.   He went early in the week to a fireworks display at Bradley Fair with my family.  He ended up having to sit in the car to watch them cause he started crying when they started.  But he was okay in the car since they weren’t so loud.

Then I took him to a fireworks tent and bought a few fireworks.  I bought 6 boxes of the poppers cause I thought he would LOVE those.  No.  The lady at the tent sold me on the new and improved version but I should have stuck with the old kind cause the new ones were MUCH louder.  Did 1 of them and then every time I pulled them out after that he’d say “let’s not throw that.”

But we discovered the solution when we were out in Sterling for Anna’s birthday party.  Headphones.   He loved having these and wore them for probably 3 hours straight on the 4th of July.  Even thee next night some one in our neighborhood was shooting more off and he came running into the house looking for his headphones.

Isaac wasn’t too sure what to think.  He didn’t cry a lot but he didn’t really like them either.  Callista, on the other hand, she wanted to light them herself!

Happy 10th Anniversary!

On Thursday Jamie and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary!  Neither of us can believe it has already been 10 years.  Time goes too quick.  Jamie bought me flowers and wrote me a poem!

Then we spent the afternoon lounging at the pool (getting sunburned!)

So in LOVE!!!

012

Then we went to the movies (which is something we NEVER do). Had to go to a chick flick (can you say hello, Ashton!! :) ) since there weren’t any other good ones showing.  I could tell Jamie was getting pretty restless about an hour into it, but I thought it was cute.

016

After the movie we went to Chester’s Chophouse – a, very expensive, steak place here in town.  We have been there once before for a company dinner and we decided our 10 year anniversary was worth celebrating!   Jamie  had the special of the night – swordfish – and I went with the filet mignon. The food was all really good but you think when you pay $26 for a steak it’s going to be a huge steak.  It wasn’t even the size of a baseball.  Served on a huge plate though!  Then you have to order your sides separate, so it all adds up!

017

We ended up sitting out on the patio next to a couple who were celebrating their 50th anniversary.  The 2 couples at the table  behind us knew them and started talking to them.  We were drawn into the conversation and told them it was our tenth and so on.  One of the men at the table behind us kept going on and on about how he couldn’t believe we’d been married for 10 years, and how Jamie got so lucky that I picked him and on and on and on.  Well, we finally went back to eating and when we were done with our meal our waiter told us that someone had – anonymously – paid for our dinner!  We knew it was the table behind us so when we left we told them thank you and talked to them again for a little while.  Again, the guy went on and on about how lucky Jamie was till his wife finally hit him on the arm and told him to be quiet.  In all fairness, the grandma at the table did stick up for Jamie when she said “now, he’s pretty cute too!”   So it was a little bit awkward, but they paid for our dinner, which we figure was at least $100!
