“Want to hear my new song?”
If you’ve seen Hudson in the last week, he’s bound to ask you….thankfully this one has replaced Frere Jacques (most of the time)…we were all getting a little sick of that one!
“Want to hear my new song?”
If you’ve seen Hudson in the last week, he’s bound to ask you….thankfully this one has replaced Frere Jacques (most of the time)…we were all getting a little sick of that one!
Checking out the rabbits…
Hudson thought the roosters were too loud!
We watched the cow milking demo. I think he was a little mystified by exactly what was happening!
My dear husband took this pic and didn’t even get the whole board in! men!
Checking out the humongous pumpkins!
We only went for the morning so I was disappointed we didn’t get to ride the ferris wheel. But Hudson and I rode the train instead. Contrary to his face in the pic, he did enjoy it!
We watched the monkey show and since I love monkeys, I thought it was pretty cool. These were trained monkeys that have been in lots of movies and commercials so it was fun to watch what they could do.
And the highlight of the day….he couldn’t even wait till we sat down at the table to eat it….
Following last year’s tradition…his annual (as in he gets to eat one once a year at the fair) corn dog!
He devoured that thing!
He was asleep before we even got out of the parking lot!
We made our apple butter Tuesday. It turned out really good and the house smelled delicious all day. Only thing was I didn’t time it out very well and since it takes 11-13 hours to cook I had to get up at midnight and again at 1 am to finish it. But it was ready for breakfast Wednesday morning and Hudson and I had our share!
The boys helping me peel, slice and core the apples:
The apples when they started cooking:
And our finished product for breakfast: homemade apple butter, made with apples handpicked by us, homemade whole wheat biscuits, homemade apple juice, squeezed by our own hands (well, Chase’s hands) and scrambled eggs straight from Mimi’s chicken coop!
Hudson enjoying his breakfast!
On Saturday the whole family went apple picking! Some friends have a small apple orchard and a machine to make apple cider, so we spent the morning out there. It was a great time!
Is this a good one mom?
There were lots of rotten apples on the ground already and rather than trying to climb the trees to pick the apples, the boys would get up in one and shake it, and then we’d pick up the good apples that had just fallen off.
of course, the kids did pick a few!
But it was hard work!
Then they discovered how delicious they were to eat!
We couldn’t get Callista to try one for a long time but once she did there was no stopping her! I think she ate about 5 of them while we were out there!
Washing the apples
Grinding them up into mush…
and we have apple juice!!!
The juice is really good. I froze a whole bunch to save for hot apple cider in the fall and I’m going to make apple butter with some apples I brought home later today! YUM!!
We had a great time on our camping trip!
Here’s a few pics of the night:
The boys hanging out in the tent.
The opossum we saw hanging from a tree!
The HUGE deer we saw in the woods!
AND a mountain lion up on the rocks!
and the huge, giant, humongous fish Hudson caught in the lake!
Oh – and the grizzly bear!!
You can probably tell by now our “camping” trip actually consisted of a shopping trip to Bass Pro Shop. Seemed to be enough for Hudson – he never asked about camping! We didn’t go cause Hudson was just getting over a cold and Jamie’s cold had just started…so we spent an extra night in the hotel in KC instead.
Now that’s my kind of camping!
He was very excited for his first bite of cheesecake!
BOY!!!
So I guess the fortune cookies aren’t always right! And I should always listen to Jamie. He and Hudson were the only ones who thought it was a boy and they were right! Two minutes into the ultrasound Jamie got a huge grin on his face and whispered that he saw “it”. I thought he was crazy cause I have a hard time making out anything on the screen till they till you what it is…but a few minutes later she announced that he was right! Hudson was with us and when we told him “it’s a baby brother” he started crying “I want a baby sister!” Of course, half the time now he still says it’s a baby sister… we had him announce it to Jamie’s family and he made it sound like it was twins “a baby sister and a baby brother!” he said!
We had the ultrasound on Tuesday and then had family and friends over Tuesday night to make the big announcement. I served “blue” ice cream sundaes…blue m and m’s, blueberries and oreos with the filling dyed blue….I think since everyone thought it was a girl it took a little bit for all the blue to sink in…
Just some random pics from stuff we did in August:
Uncle Nate took Hudson fishing in the creek by his house. They even caught a few little ones, despite the fact that Hudson wouldn’t quit talking!
We went back for more putt-putt and took Garret with us…
Got to babysit Baby Avary and we all got a little practice in! This was her first time away from Mommy and Daddy and she wasn’t wild about the bottle. Jamie and I both tried and then Hudson wanted to, so we figured why not? She took it from him at first and then wouldn’t have anything to do with it.
Rotary Club family night at Stearman’s Grill – it’s right on the landing strip on Benton’s airport so you get to see planes land and take off while you eat. Hudson loved it and still talks about the planes…
Tradition picture on the orangutan at the zoo so we see how much he’s grown each time we go…man, he’s grown!
Hudson wanted to push the stroller…not sure that will be a good idea once the baby comes since this is the way he liked to do it!
Look who we’ve got our Hanes on now! I decided these will have to be winter time underwear – they show underneath his shorts!
And me, 5 months…
