S'mores Bar

For my Mom's birthday a few weeks ago I threw her a "Smore's Bar" Party.  I had seen the idea online (of course!) and was just waiting for the right occasion (and for the weather to cool off) to do it.  It was super easy to do - I just had everyone bring one or two things and then set it all up when they got there.  The boys were in charge of the fire pit and then we just had to roast our marshmallows and enjoy.

The "S'MOREgasbord"

We had strawberries, blueberries and bananas for a different twist...

And coconut, cinnamon, sea salt and nutmeg to spice it up...

Hershey's, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Heath and Caramello's for the good stuff...

Then you could follow the menu I had put together, or make your own...

It was quite the hit....with Batman...

and Superman....

and Minnie Mouse!

Family Pics

In August my entire family went and had some updated family pictures taken.  It was about time - since the last time we did family pictures we have added 2 spouses and 5 grandkids.  The talented Angela Kleinsasser took the pictures for us and did a wonderful job.

10 months

Tate is 10 months old.  Wow.  It doesn't seem possible that it's gone that fast.  But, it has and now I've already begun planning for the BIG 1st Birthday Party!

Tate is getting sooooo close to crawling.  Of course, I have thought that for the last month now but this week he has actually started moving himself across the room - kind of.  He rolls and scoots and hollers about it the whole time, but he does actually get somewhere.  He can now go back up to his knees from lying on his belly, and he is starting to make one or two little crawling movements (moving his arms and knees at the same time) but then he falls down onto his tummy.
He has also become quite the jabberbox.  Lots of "da-da's" and "ba-ba's" and a few "ma-ma's", plus lots of jibberish.  He LOVES his big brother and his face lights up when he comes into the room.
We (as in I) am working harder on getting him to sleep through the night.  After his last cold, and what we thought were more teeth coming in (but none have popped through yet) he had gotten back in the habit of waking up every 2-3 hours at night.  So this last week we have been either letting him put himself back to sleep or only going in and patting his bottom to help get him back to sleep. No nursing- until after 4 am is my rule.  I figure we'll get him to that point and then start pushing it further and further till he isn't waking up at all (cross my fingers!).  The first night he was up a lot, but since then, especially if we do good keeping him on a schedule (as in bed time by 7:30 which is very hard to do since Jamie doens't get home till around 6:45) he has done pretty well.  He also takes much longer naps when we keep him on a better schedule, so we're working at it.  Hudson never napped regardless of a schedule or not, so it's different being tied down to that.  Makes for very small windows of time for me to be able to run errands or do stuff outside the house, but if it means the baby sleeps, then let the baby sleep!
He loves eating now and is eating meat now.  The boy loved his spaghetti meat!  Chowed it down.  He has also had beans and chicken, and this week we started some yogurt.  He loves it all and prefers to feed himself over us spoon feeding him, so that is what we have been doing lately.

(and no, I can't ever remember to put a bib on the child!)

momma's milk

I was explaining to Hudson that he used to drink momma's milk when he was a baby just like Tate does.
His response: "Thank you for letting me drink your milk momma.  It was DELICIOUS!"
Sweet boy!

{future} soccer mom

"Brother and Sister bear loved all sports.  They played one sport or another all year round.  But in the fall, when the leaves turned color and the first frosty nip was in the air, the thoughts of Brother and Sister bear turned to...soccer. They dusted off the old soccer ball and headed to the soccer field."

This is one of Hudson's favorite books right now.  We spend lots of our free time playing "Rockets" vs. the "Steamrollers" either in the basement or (lately) out on the soccer field, cause he's getting a little too good at kicking the ball to play indoors anymore!
