Headed out for his {first} basketball practice

I asked him to show me how he was feeling and this is what he did.  I think he may be excited about basketball practice! It's at the YMCA but he's still too young for playing on an actual team, so this is a parent involved skills practice for 3 year olds.  I think he'll really enjoy it and playing with the other kids.  I told him he had to wear his jayhawk sweatshirt cause jayhawks are really good at basketball!

S is for Sunflower and outer Space

Our second week of school we did the letter "S".
Hudson's Bible verse was "Seek ye first the kingdom of God."

We went out to a field and cut some sunflowers.  We used SCISSORS and a SAW to see which one worked the best to cut the flowers (the scissors - he had a hard time with the saw but he liked it better!).

That night we took some of our flowers to Gigi and Mimi and SHARED them.

We also made our own sunflower.  He cut out the petals. He is getting really good with the scissors.

Then he glued the sunflower seeds on to a paper plate.  Yes, you need A LOT of glue for this!

Saturday of that week was free admission to a museum so I thought about taking him to the cosmosphere, so to gear up for that, we did a little SPACE unit too.  But when Saturday rolled around, we decided to go to Exploration Place instead of driving all the way to the cosmosphere.  He had a great time there - his favorite was the airplanes and the miniature golf!

We built a space rocket.

Then we shot off some "rockets" outside

hudson was scared to get too close - but Tate loved it!

This was just the second week of our homeschool and he informed me that he already knew how to write an S so he didn't need to practice.  (His version of an S is not exactly legible!) So I thought he would love this project, instead of practicing writing with a pen.  I gave him SPAGHETTI and he was supposed to shape the noodles in letter S shapes.  He picked them up and ate them instead!

11 months

Well,  I say it every time, but I can't believe it's been 11 months.  My baby is almost 1 year old!  Momma is already busy planning the big birthday bash!   Tate is getting more and more vocal.  Still lots of da-da's and babbling mostly.  He LOVES to eat.  I think he eats more than Hudson does - I'm not kidding.  It's ridiculous the amount he shoves in.  And how fast he shoves it in.  He loves everything I give him, but his favorite by far seems to be meat.  He devours it.

He is crawling everywhere now and getting more adventurous as far as moving from room to room and following Hudson around.  He gets into the dog dishes now so we have to keep those put away.  Especially the water dish.  He loves to play in water!  He is pulling himself up to his knees, but not to his feet yet.  Although he can stand up a little bit now (holding on to the couch or table or your hands).

He still just has two bottom teeth but we think there's some more coming in.  We are hoping that accounts for all the waking up at night and the disgusting, nasty diapers we have had to clean lately.  (Cloth diapering at its worst - yuck!).  He was doing so good sleeping until about 2-3 weeks ago.  He was sleeping 12-13 hours straight at night.  I just stopped going in to feed him unless it was after 4 am and after a few weeks he wasn't waking up at all anymore and sleeping till 7 or 8 am.  But the teething has messed with that and he is up once or twice a night now.  Although I still try to stick by the not going in till after 4 am...unless he's screaming!

The worst thing about the sleeping is that I am on a "work blitz" right now.  Meaning I am going to get caught up with the clinic stuff by November 1st - no "ifs", "ands" or "buts" about it.  So I'm working 5-6 hours a night doing that, go to bed around 2 or 3, and then Tate is up usually within half an hour of me getting to sleep.  UGH!  But I refuse to have it hanging over my head anymore.  I don't want to feel guilty staying up late to work on Tate's party stuff and other fun projects I want to do when I know there's a pile of work in the office I should be doing instead.  So it will be done.  I started last Thursday night and have already finished 6 months of it (averages about 4 hours of work per month that I need to get caught up on).  So I have August and September left to do, then by that time October will be over and I'll have to get it done.  Plus keeping up with the daily billing and other work.  Then the weight will be lifted off my shoulders!  Whew!

GAD

We took Hudson and Tate to Greater Andover Days this year - it's becoming a tradition for us to go to the parade and the fireworks.  This year they added a tailgate party on Friday night, which we attended with the Andover Rotary Club.  AND this year Hudson was big enough to ride on the rides at the carnival.  He was SO excited about riding - he talked about it constantly - especially after he saw the ferris wheel when we were there Friday night.  He couldn't wait to go back and ride on it.
My son eating a bag of cheetos.  Not a sight you see very often.

Playing games at the tailgate party.

Waiting for the parade!

I bought him a wristband and  then we made sure we got our $$ worth out of it.  He rode every ride (well, the 4 he was big enough to ride on!) several times.  The motorcycles were his favorite.

I thought it'd be fun to catch a pic, but Hudson wasn't so wild about the idea!  Maybe next year.

All tuckered out.  He had a big day watching brother ride all the rides!

Tate's first trip to the Zoo

My sister and I took Tate, Ashley and Hudson to the zoo this week.  It was Tate and Ashley's first time to the zoo.  Ashley was a little more into the animals than Tate was....but we all had a good time and the kids did really well.  Except that Tate wanted to be carried most of the time instead of riding in his stroller.  So besides my back being tired and sore by the end of the day, all went well.

Hudson practicing his newest smile/pose.  I am getting this new look in all pictures lately.

Tate wasn't too sure about the orangutans.

But he liked the fish.

He thought the gorilla was hilarious!

But his favorite was definitely the lion.

See for yourself:

Talking it up

Tate has become very vocal the last few weeks. Mostly lots of "dada" but lots of other gibberish as well!

Look what Tate can do!!

He started crawling on Monday!  Over the weekend he was starting to put it together and could go a little ways, but Monday he just took off!  He doesn't wander too far yet but Jamie is putting the baby gate up this weekend!  Now that he's on his knees all the time he's also started pulling himself up more on chairs and toys. Today he did almost a perfect somersault over the top of a basket of blocks.  Stunned him a little but not too bad.  He's also started sitting up in his bed when he wakes up and calling for us - usually "da-da", occasionally "ma-ma", more than crying!  He's getting so big!!

Hudson's first week of {home}school!

Although we didn't enroll Hudson in preschool this year he is still having preschool- at home!  I decided to try to do some 'structured' learning stuff with him a little bit each week. My main goal was to just spend more time with him one-on-one since he doesn't get so much of "me" anymore.  Besides that I want to work with him on his number recognition and writing his letters and numbers.  But after I started doing some researching online about how to go about it, I found all sorts of other stuff to throw in as well!

He loved his first week of school {This post is a little late-we actually just finished up his 3rd week.}.  He was SO excited for Mommy to be his teacher and to do school at home.  He did great the first day we did it and was excited to do all the different projects I had for him.  It probably helped that our first letter of the week was "H" - a letter he knows well and has been able to write since he was pretty little.

Every day (that I remember or he reminds me) we do our calendar and say the Pledge of Allegiance.  We are working on learning the days of the week (in order) and the months of the year, as well as the terms yesterday, today and tomorrow.  He impressed me with the calendar because when I first put it up (a few days before) I pointed out to him that September 9 was Gigi's birthday and he remembered and wanted to put the magnet on Gigi's birthday as well as the 12th for that day!

We are also doing a weekly Bible verse.  This week's was "Honor your Father and your Mother."  He memorized it immediately (I think we might have done that one before awhile back.) and can still recite it if you ask him his "H" Bible verse.

I quickly discovered he loves any project that involves glue!  So I make sure to do at least one of those types each week.  This one was gluing a Hippo together.

Working on tracing the letters in his name.  Learning to spell and write his name is one of the other important things I want to accomplish with him.

A puzzle I made for him to learn to spell his name.  I really need to get a picture of just him, pretty close up, cause that will be easier to put together.  This one of him and Tate was a little tricky because of the way I cut it, so if he had one with just his face he'd be able to do it better, I think.

One of the other things we did was go on a Hunt.  He wanted to Hunt for dinosaur bones....
We discovered a bee Hive (ok, a wasp's nest, but since it was Letter H week....) so then we had to move our Hunt elsewhere...

Tate got in on the Hunt too and wore his Hat for letter H.  My original plan was just to do stuff with Hudson while Tate was napping, one morning a week, but I discovered quickly that Hudson's attention span didn't last that long for all the stuff I had planned, so now we have been doing a little bit 3 mornings a week usually, or special stuff like the Hunt whenever we decide to do it...

More digging.  Notice a stud finder is a very useful tool to have on a dinosaur hunt!

For lunch on his first day of school, we made a special pizza:

Just for him!

Our other special "H" project was to check out this House they are building in our neighborhood.

Hudson picked up these nails and made a letter H with them all by himself!

When we got home, he drew out some building plans in his journal for building his own House.

And then later, he built his own House out of scraps we picked up from the big House.
{Again, he really enjoyed the glue!}

Using his Hammer to build his House!

So our first week of school was a great success.  Unfortunately, I can't say quite the same for the other 2 weeks so far. He isn't near as interested as he was the first week, but we're working on it.  More about the next 2 weeks later {And I promise there won't be this many pictures every week!}
