S is for Sunflower and outer Space

Our second week of school we did the letter "S".
Hudson's Bible verse was "Seek ye first the kingdom of God."

We went out to a field and cut some sunflowers.  We used SCISSORS and a SAW to see which one worked the best to cut the flowers (the scissors - he had a hard time with the saw but he liked it better!).

That night we took some of our flowers to Gigi and Mimi and SHARED them.

We also made our own sunflower.  He cut out the petals. He is getting really good with the scissors.

Then he glued the sunflower seeds on to a paper plate.  Yes, you need A LOT of glue for this!

Saturday of that week was free admission to a museum so I thought about taking him to the cosmosphere, so to gear up for that, we did a little SPACE unit too.  But when Saturday rolled around, we decided to go to Exploration Place instead of driving all the way to the cosmosphere.  He had a great time there - his favorite was the airplanes and the miniature golf!

We built a space rocket.

Then we shot off some "rockets" outside

hudson was scared to get too close - but Tate loved it!

This was just the second week of our homeschool and he informed me that he already knew how to write an S so he didn't need to practice.  (His version of an S is not exactly legible!) So I thought he would love this project, instead of practicing writing with a pen.  I gave him SPAGHETTI and he was supposed to shape the noodles in letter S shapes.  He picked them up and ate them instead!
